Why mold is common in Jupiter
Jupiter sits where the Loxahatchee River meets the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic at Jupiter Inlet, so a large share of homes are on or near the water. South Florida's long wet season, from late spring through October, keeps humidity high for months at a time.
Many Jupiter homes are seasonal or second homes, from riverfront houses to golf community villas and beachside condos. A home closed up through the humid months with the AC off or set high can grow mold on walls, in closets, and on furniture before the owner returns.
Storms add to the risk. Wind-driven rain gets past windows, sliding doors, and roof edges, and low-lying waterfront streets can flood in heavy rain and high tides. After any leak or flooding, dry wet materials within 24 to 48 hours.

Florida mold licensing: what to check
Palm Beach County has 380 mold assessors and remediators licensed by Florida DBPR. Whoever you hire for a Jupiter home should hold that license for any job over about 10 square feet, plus $1 million in liability coverage, and you can verify the name and license number on myfloridalicense.com from out of state.
Owners who are away often let a home-watch service or property manager arrange the work; ask them to send you the license number and the assessor's written protocol first. The assessor generally cannot be the remediator on the same home within 12 months.
Will insurance cover it?
Mold that grows in a closed-up seasonal home because the AC was off or failed is usually excluded as a humidity or maintenance problem, even when the damage is extensive. Coverage is more likely when a sudden event, such as a split ice-maker line or a wind-damaged roof, let water in, and even then many Florida policies cap mold at $10,000. A home-watch log with dates and photos helps show when the problem began.
Along the Loxahatchee and the Intracoastal, rising water from storms or high tides is a flood-policy claim. A new NFIP policy usually has a 30-day waiting period, so check coverage before you head north. Under Florida law, notice of a new claim is due within a year of the loss, even if you are out of state when you find it. Our guide does insurance cover mold explains more.
